2005 – Held on November 6, 2005 in San Francisco, California, the second “Unsung Heroes of Compassion” welcomed an additional 48 individuals from around the world to be blessed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Like the honorees who preceded them in 2001, each dedicates his/her life to the care of others without expectation of reward or recognition.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama offered each “unsung hero” a blessing and shared more about his thoughts on compassion. He says, “I believe that at every level of society—familial, tribal, national and international—the key to a happier and more successful world is the growth of compassion. We do not need to become religious, nor do we need to believe in an ideology. All that is necessary is for each of us to develop our good human qualities.”
